I'm getting a new computer for this christmas, and alot of my friends are saying get a Mac. . i was jw the difference and some opinions on which is better? Thanks in advance.

Hi. I am contemplating installing Linux on my second HDD. I would like to know, in your honest opinion, which version is best (Red Hat, Debian, etc. ). Initially, I want to 'play with' the OS to determine what it can do.

Hi all, I've just installed 9. 1 and it works fine except I cannot get my internet connection to work. I am in Australia and use dodo. com. au. Configuration test keeps telling me it doesn't recognise my isp.

Mandrake 10 install freezes / fails.

Hi, I downloaded the Mandrake 10 Community disc (1-3). I installed previously with these disc with no problems. I'm on the same system trying to install again and here's what happens. - Freezes while checking /hda6 - Towards the end (using disc 3) it starts to report it's failing to install packages.

Hi All, I added this, name=Dag RPM Repository for older Red Hat Linux baseurl=http://apt. sw. be/redhat/$releasever/en/$basearch/dag to my RH9 yum. conf and got the below error when up yum. Error: Cannot find baseurl or name for server 'dag'.

Hi All, I'm logged in as root, but, when choosing properties, it says I'm not the owner. I also changed the file's permissions, to allow w for others, and then edited in gedit, but, when saving, it said it couldn't save the file.

Heh, I've got a 576k DSL connection and I love it. Only not too long ago I was plodding around with my old 56. 6k dial-up and the difference is quite staggering. I now that DSL isn't exactly top of the line as far as internet connections are concerned but it does everything I need it to do so I am happy.

DVD sound but no video with xine

hi, I have xine installed and I am able to play divxs mpgs and wmvs fine and I can play mp3s on xmms but when I put a legal dvd in my drive it plays only the sound and I am able to click on the areas where menu items are but the video screen is just black.

Just got a new dell with the ati radeon x800se pci express, can't find support for it in xorg. . . anyone know how i manage to get it? i'm in gentoo. . . anyone have any luck with these pci express cards yet? (yeah the nvidia card was 200 dollars more or else i woulda got it=().

Hi I'm currently using a LSI Logic Megaraid i4 card and get really poor performance out of it. So i was thinking about buying a Adaptect 2810SA but was wondering if anyone who had tried using this (RAID-5), could give me some feedback on the read/write performance.
