Installing X11

This is a discussion about Installing X11 in the Everything Linux category; i just finished installing ubuntu and i was wondering if there is an easy way to install x11 through synaptic or apt get the reason is so i can use fluxbox and thats bout it thanks in advance

I'm confused. ubuntu did not set up the Xserver for you? you have no graphical desktop? If you have gnome running then X should be there. Thenyou can just type sudo apt-get install fluxbox.

all right i found it i had to mess around with the login and in doing so i set it to xdm so how do i get it permanently back to gdm

edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager with your editor of choice... vi of course
 
then put in one line /usr/bin/gdm
 
save the file and then restart X
 
pkill X will kill then respawn the x server

IceWM is a good choice for windows manager/DE if ubuntu offers it.

ive tried icewm but my favorite has to be fluxbox and gnome
 
fluxbox for unbloated
gnome for a more polished enviroment
