Wireshark 4.2.12 is now available
I'm proud to announce the release of Wireshark 4.2.12.
What is Wireshark?

Bug Fixes
• wnpa-sec-2025-02[2] {notable} Dissection engine crash. Issue 20509[3]. CVE-2025-5601[4].
The following bugs have been fixed:
• GRPC: protobuf_json only displays the truncated string value. Issue 20392[5].
• Trailing octet after IPv4 packet end is not detected or displayed in raw bytes. Issue 20423[6].
• Wireshark does not correctly decode LIN "go to sleep" in TECMP and CMP. Issue 20463[7].
• Fuzz job crash: fuzz-2025-04-25-7554.pcap. Issue 20509[8].
• WebSocket per-message compression extentions: fail to decompress server messages (from the 2nd) due to parameter handling. Issue 20531[9].
• null. Issue 20539[10].
• The LL_PERIODIC_SYNC_WR_IND packet is not properly dissected (packet-btle.c) Issue 20554[11].

Getting Wireshark
Wireshark source code and installation packages are available from https://www.wireshark.org/download.html.
Vendor-supplied Packages
Most Linux and Unix vendors supply their own Wireshark packages. You can usually install or upgrade Wireshark using the package management system specific to that platform. A list of third-party packages can be found on the download page[24] on the Wireshark web site.
File Locations
Wireshark and TShark look in several different locations for preference files, plugins, SNMP MIBS, and RADIUS dictionaries. These locations vary from platform to platform. You can use "Help › About Wireshark › Folders" or `tshark -G folders` to find the default locations on your system.

Wireshark 4.2.12 has been released. The release addresses several bug fixes, including wnpa-sec-2025-02, GRPC, trailing octet after the end of IPv4 packets, and the incorrect decoding of LIN "go to sleep" in TECMP and CMP by Wireshark. It also fixes problems with crashes from fuzz jobs, WebSocket message compression, empty packets, and the incorrect analysis of LL_PERIODIC_SYNC_WR_IND packets. This release does not include any new or updated features, such as new protocol support, updated protocol support, capture file support, or enhancements in file format decoding support.
