WiFi USB adapter

I want to add WiFi functionality to a desktop PC with a USB Wifi convertor. Wich brand and/or type is the most likely to be recognised and used by Ubuntu (Mate) 22. 04? Or, wich chipset do I have to look for?.

This guy has github driver builds  for realtek chipset wifi usb dongles and he alos discusses the pitfalls of uisng realtek chipsets.

There's afew guys on github who variuos driver builds for variuos wifi dongles.

realtek is not very good at providing proper up to date drivers.

Some wifi usbs are included in the linux kernel and more seem to be getting added as time goes on.

Anyway ,it's worth reading that github page ,should give you some ideas.

I bought a AWUS036ACM Long-Range Wide-Coverage Dual-Band AC1200 USB Wireless Wi-Fi Adapter.

Since then all my realtek dongles are  in a bag on a shelf.

Fed-up of distro hopping and having no wi-fi.

Best thing i ever did ,works on 99% of all distros without needing to install build tools and source files for drivers and firmware.

That's another thing ,why the  hell don't all distros include build tools for making a working wi-fi driver ,very annoying.

Anyway ,my advice is to buy the Alfa AWUS036ACM .
