Setup modem connection to internet problem

Background: I have a Compaq Presario SR1020NX. I had connected to my university ISP and all was fine. I bought RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 and installed it. Problem: The hardward browser (scanner) does not find a modem.

Add a meta refresh after login/logout?

Can you add a meta refresh after logging in, and after logging out? It seems redundant to have to click on the link to return to the home page after both login/logout. Also, what is the session timeout? After how many minutes is a user automatically logged out? Thanks.

Suse 8.2/9.1 install issue

Burned iso image onto cd's. Boots up fine, but after I select 'Installation' it loads the linux loader and then goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor. This happen to both the 8. 2 and 9. 1 versions of Suse.

Fedora Core 2 - CD vs DVD

Hi, I tried once Fedora Core 2 RC, and i got the iso edition (nearly 2GB), it was ok. . . I was looking on fedora website, and I saw they also have a DVD iso edition, nearly 4GB, there is also the CD edition the same as before, 2GB only.

my workgroup was available one minute and gone the next (after a couple of changes). before, i could see my xp machines from suse but not my suse from the xp's. i tried to get an xp to join the suse domain but it said domain controller not available.

Switch over from Fedora Core 1 to Fedora Core 2 ???

hi, recently, i upgraded my Red Hat 9. 0 Linux with Fedora Core 1. 0 which runs on kernel-2. 4. 22-1. 2140. since this kernel does not support USB 2. 0 Devices ( which are in vogue nowadays ). I heard from somewhere that Fedore Core 2 is compatiable with USB 2.

Yes, Core 2 has built in USB detection, but it's simple to get Core 1 doing the same thing. Here's a good on getting Core 1 to see USB devices. .

Via 82xxx builtin sound and problem - 3 alsa-drivers loaded!

running gentoo linux with 2. 6. 7 kernel i think and gnome and gdm. first of all i have no sound currently. i get boot up errors such loading alsa drivers. could not find alsa drivers, are you sure you have configured them correctly? something about looking in /etc/asound.

Hmm. . Don't know if it's a board problem, or our security settings at work. But I keep trying to update my email address and it says my profile has been updated and to check for email verification but nothing is being sent through to my new email addy.

I've got the asus flavor on nforce2 mobo, A7N8X. Anyways, I download the tar files fron nvidia's website and they don't even compile? What is going on here? I can get the nvidia nic going, but not the audio or the 3com card?.

When installing certain packages and hardware, Linux keeps asking for a certain CD and then doesn't 'see' it. Its a download of Mandrake 10. 0 from ISO's burned at 4X onto 3xCDR. I am a Linux newbie and don't know what to do? Part of the problem is that my ADSL modem is askin for CD1, and i cnt get online in Linux ...

Hi, I'm trying to use an Olitec Speedcom2000 external modem (serial connection)on a pc with SuSe Linux 8. 2. Do I need special drivers for this? I can only find win drivers when I search. Has anyone had experieince with this modem? Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated as I'm not too good at hardware stuff.

Just had some interesting things happen with my USB stick. I've been playing around with the new Kanotix with the 2. 6 kernel which, like most Knoppix based live CD's, will let you create a persistent home directory somewhere so your configuration files will be saved.

dual boot

i have a dual boot linux mandrake10 and windows xp and i have installed the bootloader at the mbr, how can i remove linux and the bootloader without damaging windows??? can i do it in the windows environment???
