Background:
I have a Compaq Presario SR1020NX. I had connected to my university ISP and all was fine.
I bought RedHat Enterprise Linux 3 and installed it.
Problem:
The hardward browser (scanner) does not find a modem.
Hence will not proceed to setup the modem connection to my ISP.
I have read that it's possible that my PC has a software modem?
Do I have to install a new hardware modem?
Help!

The simple answer is yes. I am surprised that you are not connected to the system via a nic card ay your university, which would work. I believe this is a Rockwell HCP modem, which is designed for windows use, a so called "winmodem."
If you do not get a better answer here, I would seach google and see if you can find a modem driver, although my simple search failed on google.
If you can find a hardware modem, this would be the way to go. It will save a lot of headaches.

head on over to www.linuxant.com to find drivers for Rockwell and Conexant. (I've spent many hours trying to get my hcf/hsf rockwell to be recognised..unsuccessfully)
