Zen Browser 1.21.12b Lands as a Two-Day Hotfix for a Drag-and-Select Bug
Zen Browser pushed version 1.21.12b on August 7. If you've been wrestling with a window that keeps dragging across your screen whenever you try to highlight a headline, this is your patch.
Two days earlier, the team shipped 1.21.11b with a new gesture that lets you shuffle browser windows around by dragging empty space on any page. It uses native OS tiling, which sounds fine on paper. The moment you tried to select text near the top of a document, the gesture handler got confused and started moving the window instead. Not exactly a dealbreaker, but frustrating if you spend hours reading documentation.
The new build closes that gap. The changelog lists only one explicit fix alongside a catch-all line for other bug fixes and improvements. Zen didn't yank the drag-to-move feature. The team refined the threshold logic to separate a deliberate window shuffle from an accidental text grab. It's the kind of polish that takes a couple of days of real-world feedback, and the release notes confirm the fix landed without removing the underlying functionality.
A Fast Cadence, A Narrow Scope
Zen has been pushing stable builds at a breakneck pace. If you're keeping score, that's six releases between July 9 and August 7. The project sits at roughly 43,800 GitHub stars, carving out space as one of the more actively maintained Firefox forks outside the upstream project. Maintainer mr-cheffy signed off on the build, which carries the verified GitHub signature from official CI pipelines.
You're still running Firefox 153.0.3 under the hood, so everything that shipped upstream is already in your install. On top of that, Zen keeps layering on its own additions. Boosts lets you tint colors and customize fonts on any site. Live Folders auto-populate sidebar slots with GitHub issues or RSS feeds. Space Routing handles external link routing. And there's now QWAC compliance for European enterprise users who need eIDAS verification.
The download page shows Windows x64 leading with just over 12,000 pulls, followed by macOS at around 5,300. Linux users get AppImage and tar.xz packages ranging from 76 MB to 119 MB depending on architecture. The Windows ARM64 installer sits at roughly 85 MB. If you're on 1.21.11b, updating is basically a no-brainer.
The GitHub release page shows 18 reactions and a mostly quiet thumbs-up from the usual contributors. It's a hotfix, not a feature drop. Don't expect a rave thread. You can compare the exact diff against the previous build directly on GitHub if you want to see what changed under the hood.
