Red Hat has announced the release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 with Perl 5.32 and PHP 8.0.

We’re excited to announce the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6. Red Hat Enterprise Linux provides a flexible and stable foundation to support hybrid cloud innovation. With Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6, you can:

Innovate - provides developers with a simplified experience for both access and application development. Support for the following AppStreams is now available:

  • Added Perl 5.32 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 AppStream
  • Added PHP 8.0 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux8 AppStream
  • Updated to LLVM Toolset in Red Hat Enterprise Linux8 AppStream
  • Updated to Rust Toolset in Red Hat Enterprise Linux8 AppStream
  • Updated to Go Toolset in Red Hat Enterprise Linux8 AppStream

Optimize - offers Stratis Storage support in the web console (tech preview) to allow users to utilize the Red Hat Enterprise Linux console to create, configure, and manage Stratis Storage pools and filesystems. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 also provides official SELinux support for SAP HANA production with Red Hat and SAP jointly tested Red Hat Enterprise Linux configuration that is SELinux enabled. Using SELinux’s security technology for process isolation, SAP users can better mitigate attacks via privilege escalation.

Protect - provides web console support for Smart Card Authentication with Sudo and SSH to leverage smart card authentication credentials when performing administrative functions and accessing remote hosts through the Red Hat Enterprise Linux web console. Simplify administration and compliance by transparently utilizing digital certificates stored on smart cards. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 also provides security enhancements for SAP HANA to allow organizations to adhere to the highest security standards while enabling optimum database performance.

Trust - offers new System Roles for SAP Day-1 Automation, Firewall, HA Cluster, and web console - to make it easier for organizations to automate manual tasks, standardize deployment at scale, and simplify day-to-day administration of systems. Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 also provides passthrough host devices to virtual machines using the web console to allow users to passthrough host PCI and USB devices to virtual machines via the web console. This functionality enables these devices to be available within a virtual machine present on the host system.
