GE-Proton11-6 has been released, delivering a massive 58-patch Wine-Wayland rewrite that finally enables native cross-process window rendering and a fully functional Steam overlay on Wayland. The update brings complete DualSense audio and haptic routing to Linux, establishing a solid foundation for Death Stranding 2 while optimizing PlayStation controller support for titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 and Sekiro. Anti-cheat syscall fixes now clear launch failures for Marvel Rivals, and a comprehensive video pipeline rework restores playback in games like Atomic Heart and Girls' Frontline 2. Players can install the build directly through Steam, Heroic Games Launcher, or Lutris, though testing individual titles is advised given its bleeding-edge dependency chain.

GE-Proton11-6 lands with full DualSense haptics, Wayland overlay support, and Death Stranding 2 prep

Thomas Crider, aka GloriousEggroll, ships the latest community fork of Valve's Proton with a massive Wine-Wayland rewrite and anti-cheat fixes.

GE-Proton11-6 is out. GloriousEggroll dropped the new build on August 28, 2026, and it's one of the most technically ambitious releases the community fork has shipped. If you're running Linux and want to play Windows games without waiting for Valve to catch up, this is your patch.

The release pulls in DXVK 3.1, updated VKD3D components, and a heavily modified Wine base. But the real story here is the 58-patch DMA-BUF child-rendering series. It brings cross-process window rendering to Wine-Wayland. Before this, CEF launchers, popups, and shaped windows needed workarounds like --in-process-gpu. Now they just work.

Wayland finally feels complete

Wayland has been the dream for Linux desktops for years. Performance and security checks out. Usability under Wine was another story. Missing features like child window rendering kept gamers on X11.

GloriousEggroll has been rebasing the Wine-Wineland patches since early 2024. This release finally merges the work into a usable state. The new driver lets you run both winewayland.drv and winex11.drv simultaneously. You can pick your display server per process using the WINE_GRAPHICS_DRIVER environment variable.

The Steam overlay now works under Wayland too. That used to be the last major blocker. Mouse capture, controller navigation, and text input all route correctly now. OpenGL overlay support lands alongside Vulkan.

DualSense gets first-class treatment

PlayStation controllers on PC have always been a bit of a mess. The new release reworks how DualShock 4, DualSense, and DualSense Edge handle audio and haptics. It's a deep change to Wine's dsound integration.

The team specifically optimized the path for Death Stranding Director's Cut. Adaptive trigger effects, environmental vibration, and native audio routing now work under Linux. More importantly, that foundation is already pointing toward Death Stranding 2.

Sony controller spoofing got a major overhaul. Games that only recognize the older DS4 v1 profile can now be spoofed correctly. Community presets now cover everything from Red Dead Redemption 2 to Sekiro to God of War.

If you're running Marvel Rivals, you can actually launch it now. A syscall-dispatch fix clears up EasyAntiCheat and Epic Online Services failures that kept the game away from Linux.

Video playback finally stops breaking

In-engine cutscenes have plagued Proton users for a long time. The MFT pipeline rework here fixes fragmented Annex-B H.264 assembly and resolves race conditions in callback handling.

Atomic Heart, RoboCop, Lords of the Fallen, and Girls' Frontline 2 all see video playback return to normal. VRChat gets its own set of fixes for live HLS streams and scrubbing.

You can grab the build directly from GloriousEggroll's GitHub page. It integrates with Steam, Heroic Games Launcher, and Lutris out of the box.

It's a solid dump of patches. The Wine-Wayland work is years ahead of what Valve ships upstream, and the DualSense routing is exactly what the ecosystem needed. You'll want to test your existing titles before updating, since bleeding-edge Wine patches occasionally break things that were working. But for Wayland users and PlayStation controller owners, this release is a must-install.
