Bazzite Linux Ships Stable Image 44.20260928.1
The Fedora 44-based gaming distro's latest release fixes a single desktop icon, with the rest being housekeeping.
Bazzite has shipped an updated stable image, 44.20260928.1, that fixes basically one thing: a leftover desktop icon that was never supposed to be there.
The .1 at the end of the version tells you everything. This isn't a feature milestone. It's a rebuild of the September 28 base image with a single patch layered on top. If you were hoping for a big drop, this isn't it.
The only genuine code change in this cycle is commit 36bbef1, titled "fix: Remove unneeded msedit desktop icon." Bazzite normally strips the desktop icons off terminal-based apps, so the msedit icon standing out was an oversight. Kyle Gospodnetich committed the fix and wrote it plainly: "this one was missed. Sorry!"
That's genuinely the whole headline. But the release came with a little background work too.
The default editor handling shifted, moving an ms-edit default into profile.d to mirror how Fedora treats nano. GNOME shell extension digests got their usual automated bumps. A separate PR (#5920) fixed the Sunshine on Brew script so the Bazzite Portal references the right ujust action. As of right now there were already seven commits sitting ahead of main, a sign the workflow never really pauses.
Bazzite's whole pitch has always been that it's the Linux for the next generation of gamers. Hand a kid a Steam Deck and they're playing before they can read. A patch that deletes an icon isn't quite the announcement that slogan implies, though it's the sort of quiet tidiness that keeps a distro from slowly rotting.
How to upgrade

Fresh installs pull from download.bazzite.gg, which offers an interactive picker. It recommends an image based on device type, GPU vendor and generation, and your preferred desktop environment.
Fedora Atomic users can rebase over the terminal instead. NVIDIA users swap in bazzite-nvidia:stable, while Secure Boot owners should enroll the custom key first. The password is universalblue:

sigstore's cosign signs the images, and you can verify them by downloading the repo's cosign.pub key:
