The Firebird Project is pleased to announce the last release candidate for the forthcoming Firebird 1.5.3 final version. Release Candidate 3 is available for download and testing.

This sub-release introduces a number of retrospective fixes (backports) to bugs that became apparent and were fixed in the Firebird 2 tree during the alpha and beta phases of the Firebird 2.0 development. This release candidate (RC3) will become the final stable version in about a few days.

It is probably OK to regard this as the final release version, but we do not guarantee that something won't appear during this pre-release round.

Cluster Resources recently released a new Maui snapshot that fixes a number of internal job management issues, improves fault handling and logging, and updates a number of communication protocols to allow better interaction with peer services.

This snapshot also follows a new version formatting that includes explicit snapshot version information at runtime. The formatting means that administrators can issue a "maui --version" or "showq --version" and see both the Maui release and snapshot version info for the installed package. Based upon feedback from the user community, the formatting change is intended to let administrators know the exact version of Maui they are using. Both TORQUE and Moab previously used this version formatting system.

The reporting feature in v1.2, in addition to customizable views, makes it now possible to generate different views of data available within the software. Additionally, these views can now be printed with the help of the ‘Export to Excel’ and ‘Printable Reports’ facility provided in the new version. The reporting feature will act as an input for evaluation and will also come into use in the decision making process in organizations.

TORQUE* Resource Manager's user community, in cooperation with Cluster Resources, contributed several fixes in the last month to create TORQUE 1.2.0p5.

One important fix stops the problem of qstat hanging while pbs_server is waiting for an update from an offline MOM. The problem occurred when a MOM in the "down, job-exclusive" state was marked offline using the "pbsnodes -o" command.

A patch submitted by the University of Maine fixes a communication error during job cancellation. When Cluster Resources tested the patch, they found it increased the performance of qdel in certain circumstances.

On behalf of the user community we would also like to thank all those not mentioned above who helped find and fix problems and test new patches.
