Freespire 2.0 Alpha 2 has been released:
It is bare bones Linux system, stripped down of everything, but core necessary files to compile and run OpenGL/C code. It has simplified directory structure and cleaned up internal cross referencing, it starts up with and in total has only a single script.
There is complete OpenGL Red Book together with 45 examples converted to use Scitech's drivers. Examples are organized to follow chapters and are ready to compile and run, they look very much like their GLUT version in Red Book. This little collection is really all one needs to learn OpenGL. In fact the whole system being very bare bones and really simple can be used as learning tool to teach Linux basics and C/OpenGL programming...

Freespire version 2.0 Alpha1U (1.2.42) is now available for download:
Released on 08 March 2007
Version: Freespire 1.2.42
Size: 634.94 MB
MD5 Checksum: 81f3e44f91bd90d30dddc49012415d76
This is the first Alpha build based on ubuntu that might not be good for the health of a production machine. Expect improvements as future builds are released.
Some of the release notes:
Automatic boot menu management does not always work. Do not install if you are not experienced at repairing Grub configurations and MBRs.
No upgrade path available from Freespire 1.0 or previous versions of Freespire 2.0 Alphas (apt-get dist-upgrade might produce anomalies due to package name differences).
NVidia and ATI drivers are not automatically installed.
Jack has been removed -- any applications which do not use ALSA may not work properly.
To report a bug please report in Freespire Bugzilla.

STUX is a Slackware/Knoppix-powered live CD with the Morphix-like ability to build a custom ISO. While the combination has high potential, this implementation leaves something to be desired. It's worth the experience if you enjoy using new distributions, but if you're looking to replace your current desktop OS, look elsewhere.

Damn Small Linux 3.2 has been released:
DSL is a very versatile 50MB mini desktop oriented Linux distribution.
Damn Small is small enough and smart enough to do the following things:
Boot from a business card CD as a live linux distribution (LiveCD)
Boot from a USB pen drive
Boot from within a host operating system (that's right, it can run *inside* Windows)
Run very nicely from an IDE Compact Flash drive via a method we call "frugal install"
Transform into a Debian OS with a traditional hard drive install
Run light enough to power a 486DX with 16MB of Ram
Run fully in RAM with as little as 128MB (you will be amazed at how fast your computer can be!)
Modularly grow -- DSL is highly extendable without the need to customize

Knoppix v5.1.0 has been released:
Finally, it's done. Just in the past couple of months, there has been quite a lot of new and exciting development in the GNU/Linux world, which of course should also be present in the current Knoppix version. Even that some of the new and optional features (like the 3d-desktop beryl) are still in experimental stage. Repeatedly, new Kernel-/KDE-/OpenOffice releases have spoilt our planned release dates, but on the other hand, now all these are available in the new release as well (2GB of software on CD, 10GB on DVD):
