hi i read somewhere before about how linux dose not suport 'win modems' so i want to buy a 56k modem for my laptop. i found one for about $80 a pcmcia modem and am wanting to know if any of the pcmcia modems are 'win modems' or what the story is.

Just started using Linux (Debian)- I now have it on 3 systems. Per advice here, I got an Actiontec External modem. I am using an Earthlink dialin number that supports V92, but at connect time V44 is not started.

Hi I have Mandrake 10. 0 official installed on my computer. The only way I have access to connecting to the internet is by using the motorola surfboard 4200 cable modem either by ethernet or usb. However when I try both approches I get the same result: nothing.
USB optical mouse problems!!!

I've spent the better part of today in vain trying to get my mouse configured. It's a Logitech USB optical scroll mouse. The weird thing is, just yesterday it was working perfectly! To retrace, I installed Slackware 10 Sunday and quickly had my mouse configured and working perfectly.
Hard Drive not detected after Fedora III install

I installed a new Hard drive and got rid of the old one. I chose to start by installing Fedora Core first. It installed perfectly well. Now the problem is that when i boot, my computer does not detect the hard drive anymore!! Although whenever I set the fedora instal cd again, it finds the installation.

I have just gotten a new System for christmas: ASRock K7VT4A+ Motherboard (with Sempron 2600+; because of the fixed multilier and the slow RAM (266MHz) only clocked at 1,465GHz rather than 1,83 GHz), and this motherboard seems to be the cheapest one and is not working well.

I just broke into the linux scene big time, and I wont know what I would've done without the great community around it! after trying out tons of distros for both i386 and x86_64 (Im have an amd64 system) I realized I need a better system.

My old TI 42000 GeForce 4 ran perfectly. This one is giving me fits! It says right on the box that it's Linux compatible, and it works perfectly with the nv drivers. Looks great. The problems begin when loading the nvidia 3d Accelerator drivers.

This started a couple of weeks ago intermittently, now it's hosed completely. X was working fine until I did a reboot. At the very beginning Dell splash screen, I get a series of flashing white vertical stripes that doesn't go away.
