Need help just this once
This is a discussion about Need help just this once in the Linux Hardware category; I just broke into the linux scene big time, and I wont know what I would've done without the great community around it! after trying out tons of distros for both i386 and x86_64 (Im have an amd64 system) I realized I need a better system.

after sorting out priorities, my main reason for going with linux is the flexibility and the eye candy it gives. I definately need 3d hardware support for gaming, and there was no workaround for my current system(ati and xfree86 just didnt cook). So I would like to know if there was a nice laptop that anyone has that works perfectly (wireless, 3d hardware, audio etc) that will run with very little pain.
if no such gaming laptops exist (i currently own the m680x emachines hell) then a nice list of hardware that I could use in building a new desktop..pref an amd 64 platform. thanks all of you!!!

Is your priority is getting this laptop/hardware for gaming or compatibility in GNU/Linux?

OP
compatability with stress on good 3d acceleration

OP
thanks danleff for the link.
I have used gentoo to no avail but finally got it working by killing the acpi.. ive got everything working on most distros except 3d and wireless. the thinkpad looks nice but isnt too comfortable for fps intense gaming...
i found this link that helped me out alot and other people might find it extremely useful..

Get an Alienware if you want to do intense gaming. In any case, you shouldn't really be using GNU/Linux if you want to do gaming big-time.
