changing root password

hi everyone i am just wanting to know how to change my root password i have the correct passwprd i want but i had capslock and its just a pain in the. . . . . to keep pressing it all the time !!! Thanks Matthew.

After a bit of a nightmare installing suse 9. 2 yesterday I was a bit miffed to find there was no p2p software as in 9. 1. However i came across post of someone asking how to install LimeWire which said cd into the directory you downloaded the limewire.

how do i put a password on grub after i completed installing linux?? if i have a dualboot system a linux and windows and i place a password on grub, if the user cannot provide the right password does it mean that he cannot use even the windows os???

originally i was running sun java desktop, which i'm pretty sure is suse 9. 0 with a purple paintjob. any way i was dual booting just fine, and then windows attacked. I was helping a friend out with a senior project, ended up having to download SP2 to get this wireless stuff to work.

Creating a dualboot with Linux Redhat 9 and WinXP with linux already installed..

I have a big problem!!! I want to install winxp as a dualboot on my laptop that is already running redhat9, i know the easiest/best way would be to reinstall evertyhing from scratch but its not possible for me to reinstall redhat.

Tell me how to get FC3 off my machine! I have tried t run wipe drive and it wont boot from the cd rom at startup. I have reset the BIOS to boot from cdrom at startup and it still won't. Someone, PLEASE tell me how to remove this, and I won't bother you again.

GRUB cant boot windows XP.

Hi, hope you lot can help me fix this. My trouble is that I have XP Pro installed on my SATA drive, MBR is as XP installed. If i choose (in BIOS) to boot straight from SATA then XP works. I also have Fedora 3 in a seperate disc (normal ATA) and can boot linux if i choose to boot straight to this drive too.

If you have a HP multifunction device (ie scanner/printer/copier) Do not try to install a scanner,it won't work. HPIJS scanner driver is built into the printer driver. Just configure your hpijs printer and scanner will be set up with it.

Help!!! Installed Redhat 7.1 dual boot with XP not working

I am a newbie in the Linux world. I installed Redhat (at least tried doing a dual boot) with XP. Once the computer rebooted I do not see an option to logon to XP/Dos. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Burning a cd. Tonight I tried burning a cd from the command line. I actually got it to do something. . . . . . . . . . . . . . it told me no, but it tried! I think it is a configuration problem, the machine sees it as a 52x16 cdrom, when in fact, its a Dominator 4-in-1 Plus CDRW+DVD-ROM.

unable to start X in FC3, pls help

I was using FC3 perfectly until just now when X cannot be started when FC3 is booted up. The only thign that appears on the screen is this. INIT : Id x respawing too fast : disabled for 5 mins. After waiting for 5 mins, the same msg comes up.

Linux Firewall / PPPoE xDSL Connection

I am new to the Linux world and had a few questions regarding configuring a Linux box to act as a firewall, as well as, connecting to my local xDSL service. As mentioned I would like the Linux box to connect via PPPoE to my ISP (xDSL) and provide firewalling to the rest on my internal segment.

My neighbor downloaded and burned SimplyMepis 2004. 6iso for me last night, from mrbass. org. I have tried to run it on my machine, but FC3 starts instead. In set up I changed it to boot from removable devices, but guess who keeps getting in the way? You guessed it , FC3.

what are the different software licenses? i knew some like freeware, shareware, and also commercial. Is there any other type? What do they mean by this? Like say for example for shareware, what do they mean by shareware? What does each of these software licenses mean?.
