cdrom woes

I was hoping somebody could help me. I can't access my cdrw. I'm running Lycoris 3 and every time I click on auto or mnt the system thinks for a minute, then hangs. If I put a new CD ROM in the drive, it does the same thing.

Hey Ive moved over to Fedore Core 2 and like it very much so far. . To get java for Opera I need motif but I'm not able to get it installed for some reason. libXm. so. 2 => not found Ive downloaded and tried to install but from source and rpm.

MDK10.1 - Disk 4 requested for extra modules under non-root user

Here's a potentially strange one. I'll admit I'm relatively new to LINUX. I couldn't get MDK9. 1 to set up any users after installation but MDK10. 1 installed and set up the users OK. I logged in as a user (admin) and attempted to install Samba server.

SuSE 9.0 Linux Server Access Problem from WinXP Workstation

I just installed SuSE 9. 0 Pro on a new server, and set-up SAMBA so that my 3 WinXP workstations could access the shared directories I created. I also used smbpasswd to create the smb passwords for the users.

Uninstalling Mandrake 9.1 on a single boot system

Please help! For some reason I've been unable to fathom, I can't get X windows to start in 9. 1, so I have no GUI. So I want to completely uninstall it and start again with Suse. The system only has one operating system on it, Mandrake, so no partitions to worry about.

Mandrake 10.0 with WinXP?

I'm currently running WinXP Professional and WinXP 64-bit (two NTFS partitions) off a Western Digital Raptor SATA RAID0. I want to install Mandrake 10. 0 on a separate EIDE hard drive, and be able to select between the three operating systems at bootup.

Anybody had this happen? I insalled FC2 on hdb which is an old 10gig HD. The install went fine and everything looked good 'til I tried to boot the other OS. Only problem, when it formatted hdb,it also formatted the first 10 gigs on hda.

integrated sound in FC2

Im using a VIA integrated sound chip now and i dun get any sound although the chip is recognized. I nvr faced this problem before with previous versions of red hat like 8 and 9. Any suggestions if the problem lies with the OS or the chip?.

Hey I wanted to try and run winxp on fat32 so i can access it from linux. . im fairly new to this and heard it was not an excellent idea but wanted to give it a shot anyhow. My hd is 160 gb so I actually got 3 partitions.

HELP! Just can't install Mandrake 10

My first post! I have the Mandrake 10 Official disks for some days now and I just can't install it! Before burning the iso's I made a md5sum on them and they were ok. I burned the iso's as I burn other iso's (with Nero).

I just got FC2 yesterday and when i installed it, i realised that i couldnt access the win xp partitions that is housed on the same hard disk as my FC2 installation. I also discovered that i couldnt get sound in my FC2.

I just downloaded FC2 and intend to install it ASAP however i read on the net that it has some problems with xp and win2000 partitions. I'm using a dual-boot setup with Xp. Anybody encountered this prob b4 and noe how to solve it?.
