cdROM mount problem

This is a bit wierd. My cdROM seems to mount properly on boot and I can play audio CDs, but I can't see any files on a data CD and when I run Mandrake 9. 2 rpmDrake to add packages, it refers to a CD on device.

I am straight off the XP band wagon and want to jump aboard the Linux boat. I d/l Linux Mandrake 9. 2 as it seems it supports my HW quite well. Is it a good distro to start off with? In windows you can hit alt+164 to create a n with a tilde over it. . and like alt 161 to make a i with stress over it. . etc. . . does linux have an equivalent system in it, or must you use the character map app, and do insert all the time? Just asking since i type several spanish papers=) Daum.

Auto Mounting windows partitions

Here is a small and useful tip. Most of us use linux and windows in a dual boot combination, and sometimes its annoying to mount the windows partitions every time u login to ur linux box. Remember the first primary partition on first fixed disk is hda1.

uninstalling bootlloader?

Anybody knows how to uninstall mandrake's bootloader? I recently installed Madrake 9. 2 in a duel boot with WinXP, but now I want to try another distros without affecting the Wins partion of course and I like to start from scratch for the Linux partition and without a bootloader.

Hi. . Is it possible to make a bootable DVD from 5 ISO's. It's SUSE 9. 0 and I'm kinda fed up with changing CD's. If there is a guide it has to be one using Windows. . Thanks. . .

Go to and download file hpoj-0. 91. tgz. This is the driver for most recent officejet and PSC all in ones. Although HP is working with the Linux community to expand thier market. This is under the GNU liscence with no gauranties.

Problems Installing Fedora

I am trying to install Fedora on a slave hard drive. THere is nothing else residing on the disk. I have loaded all of the files and been through the installation, however, when the installation ends, and the system reboots, the installation stalls when it tries to start or install my network.

I want to eventually install Gentoo on the same HD with my present RedHat 9. Is anyone here running two distros on the same hd? If so, would you please post your /etc/fstab so I can get an idea of how things are to be setup? Thanks.

After Fighting with Sh*tdrake 9. 2 for a solid month now, I have reached the conclusion that The entire Mandrake development team should most definately be taken out and be executed in a most violent manner.

server restarting for unknown reason

has anyone experienced server restarts after 6-10 hours of in-activity. We are running Red Hat Advanced server 2. 1 (kernel 2. 4. 9-e25) on intel pentium 4 (x86) box with 2gb ram. Is there any property in the o/s or bios that does this, or something wrong with the o/s.

What is MandrakeMove ? It's in Linux Mandrake 9. 2 distribution. I guess what means CD1, CD2 or CD3. But what is the Move CD ?.

Help,mouse cursor lost,Mandrake 9.1

All was well for a few hours,including a couple of reboots after a new Mandrake 9. 1 install. Next day,no mouse cursor visible. Moving the mouse does have random effects on the screen. The only change I made earlier was to configure the left mouse button to display a menu.
