hy, i tried to install rh, suse and knoppix on my laptop. went fine but after conf. grub in redhat, i messed something up. it would ask me to insert a disk and copy grub to it, there was no way to copy it to hdd.

Trying to figure out wich distro to get...

Hello everyone, i'm currently trying to figure out which distro i want: Mandrake 9. 1, RH9, or Suse 8. 2 (i think) Well, I have a quite fast cop @ 3. 03 ghz, 1 gig ddr ram and a 80 gig maxtor HD. Well, I DO want a near- mac os x theme to it, and also something like that of the dock in mac os x.

How to use the OLD kernel after Mandrak 9.1 installation?

Hi When I install Linux from my cd using the 2. 4. 21, my system hangs. I tried different bios config, nothing works. But when I use alt1 (2. 4. 19) kernel, the whole installation proces runs smoothly but after the installation, mandrake uses the 2.

Mandrake 9.1 Install No Sound from Sound Blaster LIVE Value

I am a new linux user and my first time using it was with a SuSe Live Eval CD, and that was great. Other than a few video/monitor issues I straightened it out and it worked beautifully. . . but a SuSe iso is unavailable, so I thought I'd try out Mandrake.

I installled mandrake 9. 1 But it seems to be missing some of or all of the pakages dealing with a workable ppp. hence no internet connection. hence no upgrading can some one please help ;(.

DEar sir, Thanks for your reply. I have the RedHat Lonux 8 bible. by Chrstopher Negus. I happaend to browse through that after I had sent you the sos. It suggested to run redhat-config-free86. When i ran that it went through some loading and suggested to reboot syste.

Need Help, on Loading Video driver for my Linux 8 m/c.

I loaded Linux 8, on a pentium 133 Mhz Gate way m/c. I get charecter interface. No GUI. start x fails. How do I know the type of video card and also the drver for that to get my desk top working. I thank in adv for help.

I have an audigy 2, and the built on nforce card included on the k7n2 delta My problem is, in red hat 9. 0, i can't seem to get sound out of the audigy 2, even though it seems to have been found and had drivers installed for it.

Hi, I want to upgrade the latest version of Xfree86 and the install script (Xinstall. sh) says I should end my x session before I continue with installation. But how do I do that? Help I can't find anything that shows me how ;( thanks for any help!!.

Debian sid DVD iso cd1

The size of the Debian sid cd1 iso in the news section says it is 4. 3 GB, but when you download it, it is only 384 mb. Why is that? CD2 works fine. .

Recognizing my NTFS partition in Redhat 9

I have just a quick question. I want to be able to access my NTFS (WIN XP) partition via redhat in the /mnt/ directory. In other words I guess I need to mount it. , So I have learned that fstab is the file I need to edit.

i accidently lossed my kopete somewhere in something else when it was on my task bar. . . every time i go to open it from networking it appears on my task bar then it disappears really fast. Where did it go??? It wont open for me!!! please help.

Problem with Xwindow

Hello, Last night my system worked correctly. But today Xwindow can't start. I start the computer and all services responce OK but the login screen not appears and the monitor don't show anything and goes to standby mode frequently.

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie ;( I can't even seem to be able to boot my linux for instalation aaaggghhh. like I said a newbie. I've read in Red Hat bumph that if I can't boot up from my cd, then I would have to do a disckette.
