Help installing Xwindows
This is a discussion about Help installing Xwindows in the Everything Linux category; I've been trying (unsuccesfully) to set up a hardware firewall/router/proxy - see this thread Since I am completely new to Linux, I haven't a clue. . . ;( I have the basics of Fedora Core 1 installed but no graphic desktop, so I'm sitting here staring at a flashing cursor and not a foggiest what to do next.

Can someone please help me install a graphic desktop, I think this might make things a little easier. Please be gentle, this is a lot harder than I expected... :x

What happens when you type:
gdm [enter]
or:
startx [enter]
?
If you get error messages, please tell us what they are.

OP
If I type 'startx' - I get >
"-bash: startx: command not found"
If I type 'gdm' - I get >
"-bash: gdm: command not found"
and I'm back to that flashing cursor again...
