My computer would not boot up. I tryed everything I could think of. It would not even let me boot from a floppy, fdisk, dump it, or go into DOS. I took it to a computer shop and they told me it was the hard drive.

I am using Red Hat Linux 7. 3 on an AMD Athlon XP 1800 with a Lucent PCI modem V92. My system can't detect my modem and can't dial could anybody please help me out by giving any instraction on how to be able to set up and use my dial up conection with the detail that I am curently using on my systems.

Share a net connection on a Windows PC to RH 8

Is there a possiblity that a Windows xp machine connected to the internet can share an internet connection on a cross-over cable with an rh 8 linux dual booted with windows xp machine. If so can someone point me in the right direction in getting it working, and any help with just making the network connection work ...

Hello Mandrake 9. 0 users, I am a recent convert to linux, mandrake distro, I really do like the desktops. I am unable to get my networking up and running. I connect to the internet using a Linksys NIC -> cable modem router -> to cable connection.

I'd like to know everyone's suggestion for a good Linux Distro. The main reason I'll be using it is for programming in C and C++ (for school), and for general office work, so I don't always have to boot into windows to check e-mail or use a word processor.

How do I make a boot disk in RH8?

I'm a Linux newb so bear with me. I need to know how to make a new boot disk in order for my system to switch to the new kernel (I think). I downloaded and installed every update using the RH8 update tool, and it updated my kernel too.

I have been having problems trying to get Java working in my path. If I cd to the Java directory and then run java <file> it will then start, but will complain about not having the proper class files for the application.

Mini PCI real modem?

I just found out this afternoon that the 3Com Mini PCI modem on my Thinkpad A21e can be replaced. I would certainly like to replace this winmodem with a real modem that works with Xandros Linux Can anyone recommend a Mini PCI modem which will work with linux? Or are they all winmodems?.

Hi, I'm running a not updated version of Mandrake 9. 0. (The machine is not connected to the internet. ). Mandrake does not support the ATI graphicscard familie. So It's been running on the framebuffer device instead.
