Hi,
I'm running a not updated version of Mandrake 9.0. (The machine is not connected to the internet.). Mandrake does not support the ATI graphicscard familie. So It's been running on the framebuffer device instead.
Yesterday I've tried to install the ati drivers for linux, without succes.
After an installation of the drivers, X won't start any more until the XF86config file is replaced, with the old one.
Does anyone have clue?

The problem is solved.
With the ATI driver a config program is delivered. With that program a Xf86config-4 file is generated. Compare this file with the original XF86config-4 file and the /proc info.
