Wine Staging 11.14 Released: vkd3d-latest Update Brings WoW Descriptor Heap Support
Alistair Leslie-Hughes tagged the build on July 25, 2026. The release tracks upstream Wine 11.14 and removes a rawinput patchset now handled by mainline.
Wine Staging 11.14 is out. Alistair Leslie-Hughes tagged the release at roughly 00:08 UTC today, riding the back of upstream Wine 11.14, which dropped yesterday. The diff between v11.13 and v11.14 shows 7 commits across roughly 25 files, totaling about 8,000 lines added and 6,900 removed.
Keep in mind that the staging tree bundles patches not yet suitable for upstream integration. The largest of those is vkd3d-latest.

vkd3d-latest and the descriptor heap update
The vkd3d-latest patchset went through multiple rebases between July 15 and July 21. The pinned version is 8e178b0be35a6b65425afd7e62850d52bec.
Descriptor heap support is the headline feature here. World of Warcraft Classic and Retail both need it now. The update also includes heap-related quirks for WoW Classic, storageBuffer16Bit usage in shader compilation, D3D_SHADER_MODEL_6_9 override support, and feedback loop workarounds for Sea of Thieves: Rise of the Attica.
That last one alone saves a headache for anyone running the Ubisoft title.
Rawinput mouse patchset gone
Not everything gets added. Elizabeth Figura from CodeWeavers removed the user32-rawinput-mouse patchset entirely. Seven patches, 896 lines deleted.
Upstream Wine commit 08f7b746b00c07312a70d2f978d86bc80e6df88a now handles rawinput mouse message processing correctly. The removed patches covered the Wine server and winex11 driver. While some changes weren't upstreamed, Figura noted they're unclear on necessity and would need a rewrite.
A sensible cleanup. If you're using a drawing tablet or touchscreen on X11, you should be covered by mainline now.
Upstream Wine 11.14 context
Wine 11.14 brought FreeBSD WoW64 mode using purely 64-bit system libraries. Start Menu icons for Wine Explorer. DirectSound 7.1 format conversions. AES-GMAC in BCrypt.
Twenty-one bug fixes round out the upstream release, affecting Adobe Reader, Heroes of the Storm, Age of Empires I, and Age of Empires II.
Staging scale and maintenance
Staging remains a massive collection. You're looking at 70+ distinct patch sets and well over 500 individual patch files. The dcomp-DCompositionCreateDevice2 set alone accounts for 67 patches.
Volunteered labor. Alistair Leslie-Hughes handles releases and vkd3d updates. Elizabeth Figura cleans up removals and rebase work. Contributions flow through the WineHQ bug tracker. Patreon funds the testing hardware and games.
