GOverlay 1.9.2 ships a Gamescope fix for Linux gamers
The latest update to GOverlay is live. It targets a single bug: active Gamescope sessions were getting disrupted by the overlay wrapper. Keep in mind that Gamescope runs the compositor on Steam Deck and many KDE Plasma setups. Break that session and your gaming day is over.
GOverlay 1.9.2 shipped on September 11, 2026, with a single directive: avoid breaking Gamescope sessions. The update arrived less than 17 hours after the 1.9.1 feature loadout, bringing a targeted fix for users running the overlay on Steam Deck or KDE Plasma Gaming Mode.
If you rely on Gamescope as your compositor, a wrapper that disrupts the session is a non-starter. The 1.9.1 update itself was the heavy lifting. It shipped Lossless Scaling support via lsfg-vk 2.0, integrated MAKO for frame generation, and added an FSR version selector with RDNA2-optimized options. The UI got a card-based overhaul, auto-save became the default, and the legacy bash wrapper was replaced by a compiled bgmod binary. No bash scripts here.
For users tracking the 1.9.x line, the foundation was laid back on August 22 with 1.9.0. That release introduced the modernized branding, the floating action dock, and the initial passthrough for Proton tweaks like PROTON_LOCAL_SHADER_CACHE. Since then, the overlay has consolidated the Linux upscaling ecosystem into a single interface.
Architecture and distribution.
The project is built on Free Pascal using the Lazarus IDE with Qt6 widgetset bindings. It's a fun bit of trivia for any Pascal aficionado following Linux gaming. The architecture uses XDG-compliant directories for per-game configs, with launch commands ready for pasting into Steam.
Distribution remains flexible. The Flatpak on Flathub pulls in the required Vulkan layers automatically, which helps new users skip the dependency headache. AppImage builds now support delta updates via .zsync for faster downloads. Arch users can pull the package straight from the official repos.
Keep in mind that 1.9.2 is a fix release, not a feature drop. If you just installed 1.9.1, the update is essential to lock in Gamescope compatibility.
