GloriousEggroll has recently released a new update for GE-Proton, a compatibility tool that seamlessly enables gaming on Steam Play through the combination of Wine and additional components. The latest release, GE-Proton 10-22, comes with several key improvements aimed at enhancing the overall gaming experience.

One notable change in this release is the resolution of a significant regression issue affecting various games and launchers. Specifically, fixes have been implemented to address six different bug reports that plagued players when attempting to run certain titles on GE-Proton 10.21.

For instance, Marvel Rivals users encountered an error message stating "A debugger has been found running in your system" when launching the game with GE-Proton 10.21. Similarly, Lutris World of Tanks fans experienced issues starting the game due to the Radeon RX 6900 XT's inability to support a required feature called 'maintenance5'. Other affected titles included Black Desert, which refused to open after hitting the play button on the launcher, and The Elder Scrolls Online, which crashed upon startup.

Moreover, Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced (GTA 5) players suffered from crashes that occurred just before the title screen. While no error messages were displayed, this issue undoubtedly hindered the gaming experience for those using the enhanced edition of GTA 5.

Beyond resolving these critical issues, GE-Proton's developers have also contributed specific patches to resolve compatibility concerns with certain titles. Notably, Richard Burns Rally now benefits from a protonfix contributed by the Open-Wine-Components community, which addresses the game's previously reported incompatibilities.

In another significant improvement, Persona 5 Strikers users can now run their copy without experiencing Intel CPU crashes on GE-Proton 10.22. This enhancement is particularly important for players using Intel-based systems, as it should significantly improve the gaming experience for this group of users.

Furthermore, GE-Proton's developers have continued to keep its underlying components up-to-date with the latest versions available from various sources. Specifically, updates have been made to the following:

  • The update includes em-10 and Wine-wayland patches, which reflect ongoing efforts to refine compatibility.
  • The dxvk component, which is a DirectX Vulkan implementation, has been updated to its latest commit from the Git repository, ensuring that users can take advantage of the best possible performance in supported games.
  • The vkd3d-proton component, which implements Direct3D 11/12 on top of Vulkan, has been upgraded to its latest version from Git, resulting in improved graphics rendering for compatible games.

Lastly, the core Wine component itself has been updated to its "bleeding edge" version. This move provides users with access to the most recent changes and improvements in Wine's ongoing development.
