Bazzite ships 44.20260902 stable release with OGC kernel updates and MSI Claw fixes
The latest Bazzite image focuses on stabilization work following the turbulent Bazzite 44 launch.
Another Bazzite Linux release just arrived. It's the latest stable image in Bazzite's Fedora 44 cycle, and it lands just two days after the previous release.
If you're running Bazzite 44, you know the launch wasn't exactly smooth. The team posted a "Hotfix & We're just getting started" announcement back in late August, and they've been sticking to that promise. This release is part of a rapid stabilization push. In the past two weeks alone, you've seen roughly three major image releases. The pace is aggressive, but it's exactly what the post-launch chaos demanded.
Kernel and Driver Updates
The major change here is the kernel. Bazzite is now shipping 7.2.1-ogc4. This moves the Open Gaming Collective (OGC) kernel forward from the ogc3 tag used in the last release. It's tracking newer upstream stable releases, which signals growing confidence in the gaming-specific patches.
Keep in mind that the OGC kernel follows an "Upstream First" philosophy. The code is meant to eventually land in mainline Linux rather than sitting in a permanent fork. The naming convention 7.2.1-ogc4 indicates the base kernel version followed by an OGC-specific patch revision.
Drivers are also getting attention. The release includes the 610.57.04-1 version of the Nvidia Open (NVK) beta driver. If you have an older Nvidia card, the legacy proprietary driver is now at 580.173.02. On the OpenRazer front, Razer peripheral support just leaped from a legacy git snapshot to stable release 3.12.4. It's sourced from the new "terra" repository. That's a meaningful improvement over the previous patchy setup.
Handheld and Desktop Changes
For handheld owners, there are specific fixes for the MSI Claw. New systemd hwdb rules and udev rules address issues with the A1M and BZ2E variants. InputPlumber also received improvements for back button responsiveness.
Desktop users aren't left out either. Bazzite is bringing TDP control extensions to GNOME and KDE Plasma. You can now manage thermal limits directly from the desktop environment, not just Game Mode. It's a maturation step for the project. The extensions use the latest versions and integrate natively into the desktop shell.
There's a small setback buried in the commit history. The team reverted a fix that patched ostree for Flatpak integration. It suggests that deep integration between immutable OS layers and Flatpak remains a friction point. They're iterating on it, but it's not solved yet.
What This Means
This release feels like a consolidation phase. The kernel cadence shows the OGC project is mature enough to track upstream releases rapidly. The MSI Claw support shows Bazzite is working closely with hardware partners through the collective. And the TDP control extensions show the desktop experience is catching up to the handheld one.
It's not a revolutionary update. But for users stuck on early Bazzite 44 images, it's a necessary step toward stability. If you're running an MSI Claw or just want the latest OGC kernel patches, you should update.
