A new version of the FEX-EMU, which allows the execution of x86 and x86-64 binaries on an AArch64 host, has been released. Performance has been significantly improved with the release of FEX-2409, which is mostly attributable to enhancements made to flags.
Because flags are bits that reflect the status of the processor, and because both x86 and Arm have flags, it is possible to emulate x86 functionality on Arm. Calculations involving arithmetic, such as subtracting and verifying the carry flag, are performed with their assistance. In addition to being able to implement additions of 128 bits, the carry flag is also able to indicate whether or not the result overflowed. These two operations are comparable; however, the carry flag is activated whenever there is a borrow, which is the more natural of the two. In most cases, the inverted convention emerges victorious, and FEX has been modified to do inversion carry, which has resulted in a few percent acceleration of typical workloads. FEX's translations of address modes, push/pop, AVX load/stores, and other translations have also been improved as a result of this, which has led to benchmarks being up to ten percent quicker since the previous release. Additionally, the FEXConfig tool, which is a Qt application, has been redesigned in order to enhance its aesthetics, usability, and accessibility.
Auto-Cpufreq 2.4.0, the latest version of the automatic CPU speed and power optimizer for Linux, has just been released. It keeps a close eye on your laptop's battery state, CPU usage, temperature, and system load, giving you the power to enhance battery life without sacrificing anything.
A number of enhancements have been included in the change log, such as the addition of support for the "Platform Profile" parameter, the addition of a section for the Gentoo Install, and the addition of support for the dinit (Artix) init system. It also stops the battery switch on the Xbox controller from being made to the battery profile. Among the bugs that have been fixed are those related to performance EPP in AMD CPUs, using the Repology badge for automatic AUR version updating, making it more compatible with Arch-based distributions, fixing important name mistakes in auto-cpufreq, refactoring the charging function, updating the version of nix requests, and working around problems with Artix Linux.
AM-Application-Manager 8.2 has been released. "AM"/"AppMan" is a collection of scripts and modules designed to handle AppImage packages and other portable formats, taking inspiration from the Arch User Repository.
Some of the improvements include updating install.am and management.am, rewriting database.am, fixing modules source in developer mode, adding.png or.svg symlinks to icons management, and adding an option to remove icon path. Additionally, there is an improvement to using while instead of for loop sandboxes.
Audacity 3.6.2 has been released. One of the highlights is the addition of a "Legacy" effects section, which is sure to bring some nostalgic vibes.
Not only that, but this patch release also takes care of pesky bugs and resolves various issues. It tackles problems with cloud projects, stereo-to-mono splitting, multi-channel OGG and Wavpack import, crashes after recording long sessions, and CPU maxing when minimized. Some other changes have been made, like consolidating the time track range dialog into a single one and reverting the selection change behavior when importing a clip.
