Saw over DistroWatch that ExtremeTech has posted a review on Xandros Desktop 1.0
"Xandros comes on one CD with a fairly thick manual (more than 200 pages) and is priced at $99 . We don't usually bother with manuals but new users will appreciate having this documentation at their fingertips. It's written in a clear, easy-to-read manner, covers a lot of topics and will be very helpful to novices coming over to Linux from Windows. We wish every desktop-oriented distros came with similar in-depth documentation."

"A month ago we published the world's exclusive review of Red Hat 8.0, Download Edition. In the meatime Red Hat, Inc. sent us a box of their newest product, Red Hat Professional. While the OS is pretty much the same as in the download edition and we have already made an extensive article on it, a few additional goodies await the customer in the box and we review them."

ExtremeTech has posted a review on Lycoris Desktop/LX
"Joseph Cheek, the founder and Chief Technical Officer of Redmond Linux Corporation, believes that making software more usable is what's most needed in the software industry. Joseph doesn't believe making *more* software is the answer, he believes that the right approach is to make what exists more usable . He has a unique background, having worked for both Microsoft and Linuxcare, along with being a network consultant – which makes him ideally suited for the task."

ExtremeTech has posted a Red Hat 8.0 review

Red Hat entered the market in 1994 and has become the largest and most recognized company dedicated to open source software. Red Hat now has more than 500 employees and 15 locations worldwide, with headquarters in Durham, North Carolina."

ExtremeTech has posted a review on SuSE Linux 8.1
"In this review, we'll take a look at the features and characteristics that make SuSE appealing to many people. Most of our focus will be on the new desktop features found in SuSE 8.1 Personal, though we'll mention a few new server features, too. If you've never used GNU/Linux software before, SuSE 8.1 certainly qualifies as one of the distros that you should look at closely. If you have used GNU/Linux software before, note that SuSE offers easy installation, good organization of administration and configuration, solid hardware detection, a plentiful selection of software, and a fine reputation."

Saw over DistroWatch that Linux Watch has posted a review on Debian 3.0
"Debian GNU/Linux 3.0 is a good choice for technical users and/or those who have plenty of Linux experience. Those who have a lot of spare time and patience might also take a shot at 'Woody'. We wouldn't recommend those who use dial-up for Internet access use Debian due to it's high use of the net during installation. We would not recommend Debian to a new user, instead we would point them more in the direction of Red Hat or Lycoris. We would recommend Debian for either experienced users workstations or in a server environment."

Debian Planet has posted an unbiased review of Debian 3.0
"This is a critical review of Debian 3.0, but I want to say right from the start that I'm not trying to bait anyone. However I feel that reviewers often root for Debian as the open-source underdog, and give it marks which it doesn't deserve. If RedHat 8.0 came out with installation software like Debian 3.0 it would be savaged. I think it's time for an honest review, to spur the Debian developers into making the best possible distribution. I really want Debian to succeed. I want to use it daily, and recommend it to my friends. But I can't do that right now and I think it's important people understand why."

Linux and Main has posted a review on SuSE Linux 8.1
"The first rule of a SuSE install is that the "upgrade an existing installation" choice is like the windshield wipers on BMWs: it leads you to believe that something is safe when it is not; in the case of BMWs that they can be driven in the rain, and in the case of SuSE that it's possible to upgrade from an earlier version. They can't and it isn't."

ExtensionTech has posted a Lindows 2.0 preview with 69 pictures.
"Lindows is supposed to bring choice to your computer. Not that it's really unlike any other version of Linux. With it's modified KDE interface, and basically running wine, the Linux emulator for Win32 applications. While Linux has struggled to make it to the desktop, talk to any Linux geek, and they may say otherwise. One reason I've personally stayed away from Linux is compatibility with the programs that I'm used to. MS Office for example. While gaming has been well, rather absent until recently, some game manufacturers are starting to program Linux game servers, and of course the games. So what is the average Technician think? That's what we're here to find out. Personally, The only think I've ever done with Linux is move a mouse around, played a little tux racing... I've never set up any Distro of Linux before, so let's see if I can do it."

NewsForge has posted a review on Red Hat Linux 8.0:
"The new Red Hat is so nice that when I screwed up, and installed Psyche accidentally on a hard drive I hadn't intended to wipe out (long story), I quickly stopped scowling and started playing on my new Red Hat GNU/Linux system. Ever since, I've been reading email, playing games, browsing the Web, importing photos and editing them in the GIMP, ripping my CD collection to .ogg files, and finding little to complain about. The new Red Hat is not perfect, but it's nice."

OSNews has posted a review on SuSE 8.1 Professional
"If there are two things in this apartment that I don't like, that would first be the dog upstairs which barks at 5 AM almost every morning, and the fact that UPS almost never deliver things on our door. They never bother to check if we are in. The SuSE people were very kind to send us the Professional version of SuSE 8.1, but unfortunately, I received it 10 days later after it arrived in the apartment's complex. But now we got it here, we gave it a spin for almost a week, and here is what we think about it. "
