If you have no clue what GDM is, refer to the documentation links at the bottom of this announcement.

The 2.18.1 release is a stable release of the GNOME Display Manager (GDM) program with the following bug fixes and improvements:

- The GDM configuration option daemon/PidFile is now deprecated and GDM now always uses /var/run/gdm.pid. The location can be configured at compile time with the configure --with-pid-file option. This fixes bug #162849. (William Jon McCann)

- Now GDM supports Xephyr as the Nested Xserver command. GDM will use Xephyr by default if it is on the system, and fallback to Xnest. Xephyr works much better than Xnest. (Brian Cameron)

- GDM application desktop files now use the correct categories, so the menu choices should appear in the correct place in the menu. (Brian Cameron)

- Remove the userlist from the circles and happygnome themes since this was causing problems for some users. This change will go into 2.20 where we are fixing the problem better by fixing gdmsetup to support setting the configuration so that gdmlogin and gdmgreeter work the same way with the Browser key.

Kiwi is a PyGTK framework for building graphical applications loosely based on MVC Model-View-Controller (MVC) and Allen Holub's Visual proxy [1]. Think of Kiwi as a high-level, object-oriented layer built on PyGTK. Its design is based on real-world experience using PyGTK to develop large desktop applications, which use many concepts common to most graphical applications: multiple windows and dialogs, forms, data persistence, lists and high-level classes that support domain objects directly.

10.000 lines of code changed, and suddenly Swfdec plays Youtube. Here's the release that makes it possible:

swfdec-0.4.3 "Your tube"
http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/download/swfdec/0.4/swfdec-0.4.3.tar.gz
MD5: 7a857dcc9228ac590327b04a90db2e64

This release focused on supporting video features and scripting features. It's been a lot of under-the-hood changes. While it's still nowhere near complete, some video sites - in particular Youtube - now show their videos. Of course, a lot of files still don't work.

swfdec-mozilla-0.4.3 "Now this puny world will bow down to me!"
http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/download/swfdec-mozilla/0.4/swfdec-mozilla-0.4.3.tar.gz
MD5: b2a412a9cd603e6769a402bd0b68451b

The plugin has seen some important bugfixes. The properties dialog has also become a lot nicer and you can even watch large files downloading.

Swfdec still is development software, but has also followed a rigid no-crashes-allowed policy. I believe it's stable enough now to be installed as a default plugin for people that can live with occasional crashes of their browser. But don't blame me if it does crash. File a bug at https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=swfdec

For additional info, see the homepage at
http://swfdec.freedesktop.org

Happy video watching,
Benjamin

Celebrating shiny new GNOME 2.18, I am happy to release another libxklavier stable tarball of the desktop-agnostic keyboard utility library.

Changes from 3.1 are bugfixes only, big and small.

The tarball is available from SourceForge.net:
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gswitchit/libxklavier-3.2.tar.gz?download

The CVS repository is on cvs.freedesktop.org (the one on sf.net is totally obsolete!), module xklavier, tag v_3_2
