Newbie Linux Distro Question

ok I dual booting Winxp and Xandros Desktop 3. 0 Deluxe right now and I have to say for for my first real fling into Linux I really like the look and feel of Xandros 3, install was a breeze and it seems to be very stable so far.

I am having problems installing mandrake 10.1 (3 cd)

Hi I am really new into linux. i am trying to intall mandrake 10. 1 the three cds by sticking my first cd and rebooting the system. although the system checks the cd first i always end up in windows.

a while ago in a computer magazine in the cover dvd their was a version of i think redhat on dvd which did'nt need installing you could run it off the dvd, and when you had finished you took out the dvd and rebooted to get back to normal.

Make XP default with Grub

I am a complet beginner with linux. I just installed linux on a second harddrive of a computer that already has XP on the first harddrive. Both operating systems work fine. My problem is with Grub. It allows me to select my OS from a menu but only allows 3 seconds and defaults to linux.

Hello Everyone, Im installing mandrake 10. 0. All is well so far. However iam unable to install my sound card. It is a Creative SB Audigy LS. I think model #SBO162. Mandrake didnt detect it at all. Its a couple yrs old but i dont think its antique yet.

installing rpm packages trouble

Greetings Commrades, Has anybody had trouble installing rpm packages from cd-rom? everytime i try to add updates through the add/remove packages tool i get the same error saying Error reading packages.

After My short break from FC3, I'm ready to try again! could someone suggest where I might find basic information about how to use Linux in general? I really realize that there is a lot I have to learn about this! I am only really familiar with win98, and have no practical dos experience.

Well ive looked all over the web and havent found anything that explains in detail (fit for an idiot like me anyways) about how to dual boot. i hvent done anything to the pc yet. i know how to download and burn the iso's, i just need to know how to reformatt a PART of my harddive.

Yes, I ask a lot of questions but I am learning a lot as I go It appears that there isnt shockwave for linux, when I went to shockwave site. Flash, ok I have flash installed, and I can play neopets games, but try a site like doom3.

Xandros Desktop 3.0 Deluxe: Perfect Distro for Xp user IMHO

I am brand new to Linux and I have been looking around at the various distros. A friend of mine had a new copy of Xandros Desktop 3. 0 Deluxe so I decided to try that on my laptop. Install was a breeze and it even auto resized my NTFS XP partition so I could dual boot Xp and Xandros.

Hello, does anyone know if there is a soundcard that works normally at linux, because my onboard AC'97 jacksense doesn't. I know its linux's problem because it won't work with jacksense soundcard really good.

Hello, I am having trouble installing Linux Mandrake 10. 1. The autorun file gives an error saying that the autorun file is not a valid win 32 App. Is there a way i can fix this. I bought the CD from Ebay instead of downloading it.
