Redhat 8.0 recovery

Hello, I am very new to redhat and attempting to create a backup of one system that can be recovered to another system of the same type and configuration. Attempted to use tomsrtbt and when I attempt to recover my dd created tape it does not see my /dev/sda also have attempted to use.

Dual Boot: Redhat + win2000

here is my story: 1. , Install Redhat9. . . working fine (almost) 2. , install w2k 3rd partition. (1st Linux, 2nd swap) 3. , reinstall grub Now the boot prt. is the 3rd, with the grub, and I cant load win.

Nvidia Configuration

Hello, I am new to linux so forgive me if this a dumb question. Nvidia was set up on my Redhat system and was working then something happened. Now when I boot I see everything on both of my monitors until the point where it goes to the gui login then it changes to one monitor.

how to setting up lan in mandrake 9.1?

i use a sis 900-based fast ethernet adapter for my lan and mandrake dont seem to detect it i tried to configure it in the madrake netork and internet connection thingy but it still wont go. . my red hat 9 was ok with it and worked fine but mandrake dont seem to take it to good can someone tell me what to do ir give ...

how to get rid of old kernel?

hi i'm running red hat 9 and just compiled a new kernel. . . now I have two kernels I can boot from at GRUB boot loader, my new kernel works just fine, so my question is how do i get rid of the old kernel? i don't just want to remove it as a boot option from the grub.

I'm a total noob. . . love being a total noob. Okay, I downloaded ATI's little driver kit from their site. . . says i need XFree 4. 2. 0 or whatever. I guess I found Xfree's site, but that stuff is just WAYYYY too confusing.

Running program in terminal question. Please help

I am so confused by this problem because I know it shouldn't exist. I have installed a program called GEANT4 and spent the past 2 weeks trying to get it to run. Yesterday it did run and today it does not, and I couldn't understand how this is possible.

Difficulty with Installation

I need to install a histogramming program called Physics Analysis Workstation. After untarring it, however, I could find only one README file that tells me how to run a test of the system. However the test finds errors and I don't know where to begin to fix them.

Grub bootloader - Help!!

HI, I have Windows XP and Linux RedHat 9. 0 on my machine. When i power on the machine i only get Linux RH 9. 0 appear in Grub bootloader. How can i add Windows XP to the Boot list? Thank you Anthony.

linux can't boot kde gui??

hi, my linux(mandrake) can't boot on gui mode. i'm currently boot up on a command mode. i even try login as root in command mode and then type init 5. but it doesn't work. can anyone help me? ;(.

ftp: no such tcp service - regular user

Basically i get this error when trying to use ftp with a regular user. If I'm root, ftp works fine. . . I've checked the permissions of the ftp binary, and everything looks fine. Just wondering if anybody has a solution, or where to try.

When i boot from CD-ROM, setup start but after 5 - 10 seconds i got a message that tells: I/O problems (or kind of) I can't handle with it! You may restart your system. If i start setp with ALT1 appears next message: There is no directory or file name (or kind of) I can't handle with it! You may restart your system.

Mandrake 9.1, mouse and KVM

Trying to install Mandrake 9. 1 and the mouse is not seen behind the Tripp-Lite KVM. RedHat and Windows see the mouse. Mandrake works fine with mouse plugged directely into the box. Any help would be appreciated.

gmake problem

I'm running a program called GEANT4 on my pc, and I've sent a few posts of it already regarding installation problems. When I was installing, a gmake error would always come up, and I finally found out that the configure was trying to find the makefile in the wrong folder.
