USB flash Drive under SuSE 8.2

This is a discussion about USB flash Drive under SuSE 8.2 in the Linux Hardware category; I have a USB flash drive, which is recognised by the hotplug when inserted, and an sda1 icon appears on the desktop. However when I try to mount it I get an error:- could not determine the filesystem type and none was specified.

I have a USB flash drive, which is recognised by the hotplug when inserted, and an sda1 icon appears on the desktop. However when I try to mount it I get an error:- "could not determine the filesystem type and none was specified." Doing a dmesg shows that the device has been recognised as a 130M Flash drive, but then shows a number of io errors and finally states" FAT: unable to read boot sector"

The drive is perfectly accessible under Knoppix, when I did a test boot, so I have run out of ideas as to what to do next! (It is also fine under other OS's from MS!)

What should I try next?
