Radeon 8500LE 128meg will not enable fast write.

This is a discussion about Radeon 8500LE 128meg will not enable fast write. in the Linux Hardware category; I have a Radeon 8500LE 128 meg video card, and I can not get the fast write function to work. I have it set in the bios to enable the fast write option, but everytime I go on my desktop and go into properties to enable fast write for my video card it asks me to reboot but when I go back it is still not enabled.

I have a Radeon 8500LE 128 meg video card, and I can not get the fast write function to work. I have it set in the bios to enable the fast write option, but everytime I go on my desktop and go into properties to enable fast write for my video card it asks me to reboot but when I go back it is still not enabled. I have been trying to enable this for a month ago and I am really getting frustrated. I am really starting to think that this video card model does not even do this function. Installing and reinstalling the video card drivers does not work either. Can anyone help me with this. Perhaps there is a trick that I am unaware of. I would appreciate any help here. Thank you.

I think you may find this quote interesting:

Quote:I have received various E-Mails asking about FastWrites, there is only one answer to that: TURN IT OFF
The Radeon cards do support FastWrites and they will work with it on
(on some machines), but it is not recommended, there is NO SPEED gain
when using FW, and this option will affect your PC's stability a LOT.
I found this on www.omegacorner.com, it's the homepage of the tweaked Radeon & nVidia drivers for Windows. I think the guy knows what he's saying .
So relax, don't worry and enjoy your 3d games. 8)
