playing mp3

This is a discussion about playing mp3 in the Everything Linux category; i hav a linux redhat 9. 0, its kernel is 2. 4. 20-6, my question is how can i play mp3's and movies in linux. i cannot play it. what should i do????.

For movies I recommend mplayer but xine is another popular one.
 
For music X MultiMedia System is definitely the way to go.
 
The odds are Redhat has crippled all the above if it is even installed. Redhat is like that. You'll probably want to get new RPM's and install these programs again.

Redhat runs a "generic" player, that is actually XMMS. All he'll need to do to run Mp3 is to install the mp3 plugin.

is there any .wma plugins for xmms? cause i got a few wma files that i like on da desktop and i dont have the software or time to transfer em to mp3

not sure, but I know there is for mplayer.
