Do you have synaptic installed? If not:
 
apt-get install synaptic [enter]
 
After it installs synaptic just go...
 
synaptic [enter]
 
...to bring it up. Then you can see from it which packages are installed on your HD.

easiest way is to install synaptic. It's a beautifull gui front end for apt.
