I use both xine for dvd because it has menu support, and for vcd and divx easy gui.
I use mplayer for quicktime streaming. ( www.apple.com trailers)

a) Ogle for DVD's
Xine for all kind of videos & DVD's as well
It's a pain to compile but once you do step by step what needs you won't have a problem
