Mandrake 10 - Kernel 2.6 - CMI8738

This is a discussion about Mandrake 10 - Kernel 2.6 - CMI8738 in the Linux Hardware category; Hi, I have a Cmedia 8738 sound hardware and the new Alsa module in kernel recognize it but when I try to play something nothing happens there is no sound. I already try to recompile the kernel without OSS (old sound system) using just alsa but it didn't work at all.

Just to make sure there's nothing simple wrong, did you check aumix to make sure the volume is turned up, and it's not set on "mute?"

sometimes only a go with /usr/sbin/alsaconf will produce a working set up.

I`m new here,so hi! CM8738?I have the same problem,only my PCI sound card doo not work on LINUX and on a windows! I try everything!

Found this. I don't know if this will help, but thought you might want to read it.
 
Did you run /usr/sbin/alsaconf like martouf suggested?

I found this thread, which won't solve the problem but does make me feel
it's very likely you already have all the pieces you need to make
your card work.
 
Sometimes the hard part isn't doing the right thing but doing the right things
in the right order.
