Fedore Core3 and SMC 2532 wireless

This is a discussion about Fedore Core3 and SMC 2532 wireless in the Linux Networking category; I am running Fedore Core 3 and a SMC 2532 wireless adapter. It is working but the performance seems to varly greatly. The link quality is always very good but I've noticed that the tx-power is all over the place.

wlan0 IEEE 802.11-b ESSID:"tsunami" Nickname:"tsunami"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437GHz Access Point: xx:xx
Bit Rate:11Mb/s Tx-Power:2944 dBm
Retry min limit:8 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
Encryption key:off
Link Quality=92/92 Signal level=-40 dBm Noise level=-91
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0

I tryed setting the power to max but it seems that that feature is not supported in this adapter.

[root@b-laptop wlan]# /sbin/iwconfig wlan0 txpower auto
Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26) :
SET failed on device wlan0 ; Function not implemented.

Has anyone else seen this? Can anyone give me a hint on how to statically crontrol this card?

Thanks
Brian

Please...please...please tell me how you got the SMC 2532 to work. Fedora C3 doesn't even recognize my card. Thanks!

Thanks, tried that already. On another thread, I think I discovered new in site. It might just be the PCMCIA slot itself. Friend had same cardand same kernel, same flavor, different laptop. Going to try something with pcmcia hardware config. Thanks again!
