I am a linuxx noob so I dont want to spend a week trying to get my wifi up on my laptop under linux. I have tried Ubuntu and pcoslinux, suse linux 9.2 pro and xandros desktop pro 3.0. No luck under suse 9.2 it sees the card kinda listing it as a realtek card but then says the slot is empty. Can anyone help me here?

Hi jediphx (AKA pr-man):

I suggest you try DSL (Damn Small Linux) -- Google will get U there.

Download that as an iso. Burn to cd and boot. On the DSLpanel you will find "prism2". Configure your card there.

Then, click on Netcardconfig. Look for wlan0 and configure that as needed.

If you are running your own network, simply use your settings for SID, etc. I would suggest that you first disable WEP to check things out, get a connection, reenable WEP and work on.

HTH

Do you mean WPC11?

Linspire 5, Mandrake 10.1 and SuSE 10 will all work.

SuSE 9.2 is too old and requires a little work.

It will work "out of the box" if you set it up correctly.

What are you using to connect, DSL, broadband...?

Did you attempt to set up networking during any of the installations?

BTW, if you are looking for a small distro, my vote is for Puppy Linux.
