Download WINE from www.winehq.org. Then run the installer.exe through WINE. From there, it should be pretty smooth-sailing from there. Diablo 2 works very well with WINE.

OP
OK I can do that....how do I activate wine?
Just type wine in the terminal as the user that you are gonna install D2. Wine will create a fake C drive in each of the user's home accounts.
To start off download the appropriate version of wine for SuSE that you are running. Since you are using SuSE you should just be able to install it by clicking on the file. ITs extension will be RPM.
ONce wine is installed its a good idea to open a konsole or terminal and type
wineprefixcreate
then type
wine -version
Now insert the Diablo II cdrom. I assume you are using KDE? if so click on the icon for the CD drive to mount it, but then close it (or right click on the icon and click mount). Now open a konsole or terminal and type
wine /media/cdrom0/install.exe
DO NOT cd into the directory /media/cdrom0 and run the install program as this will prevent you from being able to unmount the cd drive when it comes time to switch CD's. Once it asks for a new cd you will have to unmount the current cd (right click on icon for cd drive and hit unmount). then insert a new cd and mount it.
once it is all installed it should run fine. If no icon is created open a console and try typing wine '$HOME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo II/Game.exe'
this ought to run it.
to make sure its installed and running

Is diablo 2: LOD also able to be installed on
"Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4"?
If so how do I do it and what do I need to do it?

Did you look at the linked directions posted by zero0w?
Also realize that this thread was started a year ago, the last post being 5 months ago. But, the linked directions are current.
They recommend Wine 0.9.12, which fixed some issues.

I have a different kind of Diablo2 install issue...I can't get saved characters to register.
I have copied the character files into the save folder, and it looks right (ie like it did with windows), but when I start the game no characters are available. Is there a special process for transferring game data under wine? (The game runs just fine.)
I am running gentoo with wine v0.9.10.
