cd playing problems in red hat 8.0
This is a discussion about cd playing problems in red hat 8.0 in the Linux Software category; I'm using red hat 8. 0 now and my sound card is working perfectly fine but when i insert a music cd i to my drive and the audio player pops up and starts, no sound come out. could any1 help me here?.

Hmm. Maybe it isn't mounting the cd? Try mounting the cd before playing. As root go:
mount /mnt/cdrom [enter]
or:
mount /mnt/cdrom1
Then try the cd player.
mount /mnt/cdrom [enter]
or:
mount /mnt/cdrom1
Then try the cd player.

the cd mounts but when the cd player auto starts to play the disc, no sound comes out. aside from that , all else works fine.
i've just installed RH9 on two machines and this happened to me on one machine. i used the sound card detector and the card was working fine.. tried a different cd, it malfunctioned.. went back to the first cd.. worked fine from then on. good luck
