Ati drivers, no mouse detection in Fedora Core 2
This is a discussion about Ati drivers, no mouse detection in Fedora Core 2 in the Linux Hardware category; Another chapter in my ongoing struggle to install Ati video drivers. . . Last night, I was trying to install Ati drivers for my card by following this guide I got to the part where you are supposed to shut down X console despite the fact I wasn't sure if what I had done worked.

Last night, I was trying to install Ati drivers for my card by following this guide

I got to the part where you are supposed to shut down X console despite the fact I wasn't sure if what I had done worked... Bad idea... So I continued until the point where I needed to enter run level 5, but when I tried to get into that, I received the error that my mouse pointer could not be located and got the following , which I had to hand write -

I know I'm gonna piss off ATI users by saying this, but if you use Linux, NVIDIA is the only way to go as far as I'm concerned.
Yes, I have one box with Fedora Core 2 running an ATI Mach 64, and it works well, but having used both cards for a while under several different distros, it is my opinion that NVIDIA beats ATI hands down as far as compatibility is concerned.
ATI makes smokin' cards, many of which will run circles around a comparable NVIDIA card when both are configured correctly, but NVIDIA is really on the ball with supporting their cards under Linux.
In the old days, configuring an NVIDIA card under Linux was a ten day nightmare. It's so easy now, it's almost no fun..
So essentially I'm saying, Get a Linux compatible NVIDIA card, if the ATI presently motivates you to polish your firearms...
