Working fine. Though I didn't test the modem.
In order to use the video acceleration for MPlayer (video output 'xv') you will need XFree4.3 with the driver 'siliconmotion'. Some movies (like .ogm) kept crashing my X server when using the accelerated video output. Here is the solution:
#mplayer -vo xv -vop yuy2 ...
