Laptop upgrade

Ok, I've just about decided to upgrade my Compaq Pisario 1500 laptop to Linux. It's an ideal candidate for this. P4 2. 4, 512MB, 30GB HD, 15Lcd. Deserves better than XP. I booted it on the Mepis live CD to check hardware compatibility and most everything works.

I have a K7N2G Mainboard with Built in LAN,Sound, And Video AGP. . . I have both sound and video working perfectly. . . but I cannot use the LAN Card for some reason. . . I am a total noob to Linux and need all the help I can get.

When adding apps in RH9 ,each time a disk was requested add apps gave the message error loading package and exited. This was no real problem for me but may be for someone. My solution was to simply leave the selected disk in the drive and restart Add Apps.

Hi all! I have a problem with booting via DHCP. I have a target MS7751RSE01 board and i am trying to boot Embedded linux via dhcp. I finally got everything to be working except the error No HOSTNAME is available.

I updated Red Hat 9. 0 to Fedora Core 1 and select the choice to update from LILO to GRUB. Unfortunately I forgot that RH 9 booted from floppy and files in FC boot don't fit into a floppy. Now in the boot machine seems to want to use LILO, because first in black screen comes only text LI and then it hangs.

OK, I know that this is a Windows app. But, my step-father just sent me his PC profile with this tool that allowed me to quickly find upgraded ram and a second hard drive that matches his system. This utility gives all his system specs.

I've been seeing a lot of posts in which new users are trying to install the latest and greatest Distros on their 'vintage' PC. Typically a 166-300 pentium or pentium II, with 128-256MB of Ram and a 1-2GB HD, and some 'unknown' video card.

Heres my story. I want to install Linux Mandrake 9. 2 onto my computer, currently running XP Home. The hard drive is 37. 7 GB, and 80% is free. When I start the installation off of the first CD, i get to the part that you partition your hard drive.

I dont know if this is common sensse or if its my fault, but here it goes im going to do a dual boot with both xp and mandrake 9. 1 now i got the distro from one of the links on the board ended up to be a 680 mb file.

Hi! I found and installer for Jedi Academy, i have installed the game with no problem, then e had instaled wineX 3. 2, get the crack operacional and tryed to execute the game but. . . ;( a mad error (again) comed to mad me up! In console e typed: jasp And he seems it could not find wineX 3.

Hello. I just installed linux Mandrake 9. 2 and am unable to get it to recognize the internet. I can ping the DSL server successfully, but when I open a browser, it says it can't find any URL I enter.

hi! i have a dvd full of mp3 organized in \bandname\albumname\files. mp3 now i need a script which walks through this structure and creates in a dir on my hd anonymized links for example: band00x_album00x_00x i need this for accessing the whole files from MATLAB.

Having serious RPM problems with Fedora.

All of a sudden RPM is not working correctly. This of course, is also causing big problems with apt-get and yum. Neither will work correctly since both are RPM based. This problem never occured in Red Hat 8 or 9.

Packages on CD2 never installed in Mandrake 9.2

I've done the 9. 2 install several times now with the same result: when searching for available packages, the install never stopped to show me the choices of packages. I was never prompted to insert CD2.
