hello again, I need to know if there is a good benchmarking program for linux, because my science project is on computer memory so i need to run a benchmarking program to figure out stats then swap memory.

setting domain name

I am running RH9 and am very new. I am trying to set the domain name on the machine so that it has the same domain name for the interface eth1. I know I can just type domainname <name> when it starts up but how would I set the domain name and the hostname everytime it boots up.

Kernel Woes

I run Suse linux 9. 0 professional on my toshiba m15-s405 laptop, it has 512mb of ram and a p4m processor. I never have more than 250mb ram used all together including what linux has cached, buffered, and not to mention my tmpfs /tmp file in ram.

Mounting Windows Partition under linux

This is for noobees. If your computing experience is mostly switch on,click and go, this may help especially if you don't know how to find IRQs I/O ranges driver types,etc. If you want to try linux but don't know where to start, I've tried a few distros in the last couple weeks.

USB card reader

I'm a N. E. W. B. I. E. , so please be gentle! I have a dual boot machine (WinXP & Fedora) and I'm trying to wean myself off XP. The problem I'm having is with a Dazzle 8-in-1 card reader. I have a CF card in it, and under the hardware browser it shows it as: /dev/sda (sda1, fat16 etc.

I've installed RedHat 9, and would like to get up to speed with some applications, but. . . nothing I try to install is working. I've figured out how to provide root permissions for myself in Terminal and the <ctrl+alt+F1> whatever-that-is-page.

newbie ?, can you run aol on linux 9.1...if so how?

I am new to linux and still trying to learn. is it possible to run aol on linux and how would you go about it? I don't even know how to use root function to remove icons! I am so stupid. . . . oh, I have win98se dual boot.

Installing software from old System Cd's

I recently updated Suse 8. 2 personal to 9. 0 and lost some software packages in the procces. I didn't need most of the packages but I was using kdevelop2. 1. It was oringinally installed with 8. 0 Professional.

can't copy file

I just feel dumb as dirt, but i have files to copy. . . i'm new to mandrake 9. 1. . . i have to copy them from floppy to /usr/local/bin folder, so i open like if it was explorer so i can see the files at the right then drag/drop then to my folder at left.

Hi: I am a total newbie with Linux. Have installed Mandrake 9. 1 on a Dell Dimension 82K laptop - and, best of all, I have a Fast Ethernet connection in the plug at the wall in my house (by way of fibre-optic cable!).
