Installing Mandrake 9.2

Psion
I'm trying to install Mandrake 9. 2 on my laptop. I have already tried a CD bootable version of Knoppix and all seemed ok. However, when I'm installing Mandrake, I get to the 'Install system' section and about 1/3 of the way through, my system just hangs.

hi, i want to write platform independent programs and i am having trouble figuring out how to effectively carry out console input-output functions that would work both for win32 and linux\unix. i dont need any fancy gui api's, just something like ncurses (is ncurses platform independent?).

umm.....i think i broke it....

frederick
I have just recently gotten my hands on Redhat Linux 9. I have used Microsoft systems on every computer I've had, so I'm more than a bit lost when it comes to Linux. I installed it on my AMD k6-2 450 PC, with an onboard Trident Cyberblade AGP video card.

Package explanation

roberta
Could some helpful soul direct me to a site where we can obtain the meanings (that flash off the screen) when downloading our Linux packages. It would be most helpful for beginners such as myself to be able to know what “Swig” or “olwm” means.
