hey everyone. . i just downloaded mandrake about 2 days ago. . and i'm having problems installing it. . the cd won't boot and when i made a floppy boot it says please insert linux mandrake installation cd, when it's in the cd rom.

Mepis - Heavy Weight Contender for Mandrake

Seldom do I see a distribution that has it all for the workstation user like Mepis. I've been testing out quite a few live CD's lately (mainly because I don't have a computer at work that I can install linux on without the boss telling me it's a non-standard OS) fortunately I ran across Mepis.

I know this sounds completely stupid. Although, im pretty much a newb at linux. Im getting sick of windows so I need to try something else. I've gotten all three i386 ISO's for Fedora Core 1 and burnt them to a cd using nero.

ok, whenever im not connected to the internet on my linux box (mandrake 9. 2) it always wont start unless if i do it interactivly and dont allow the eht0 to load. . i know what to do. . its just its a pain.

I am on private lan with ip 192. 168. 1. x/255. 255. 255. 0 I use olny ip, mask to cnnect to the network as the other windows pcs do. Linux cannot see the net, the eth0 seems to load correctly while it boots.

looking into linux for my brother

Im looking to install a linux distro on my brothers machine. the only thing he uses his computer for is image editing, listening to music and surfing the web. Im more than 1500 miles away from him and cant do tech support that often for him.
