I successfully installed a dual boot Red Hat Linux 7. 2 - Windows 98 last year following some simple instructions from I know no where. Linux is the default system that loads after a few seconds if I fail to select Windows.

hello. i am a super nub to linux. so go easy on me. . . i installed redhat 8 and have many issues with it. but the one issue bugging me the most is the soundcard issue. if i run the soundcard dtector - it detects my soundcard and is presumably supposed to play a sound for me - but nothing.

2 networked computers 1 Suse 8. 0 2 windows 98 I mount the windows files like this #smbmount \\\\tomay\\c /mnt/c Everything works ok until I want to view a folder that contains files with localised characters (©ÐÈÆ®¹ðèæ¾) you probably won't be able to read them.

OK, a little while ago I got hold of an old Micron P200. Actually looks like mostly ISA stuff, inside, though there is an integrated IDE controller and PCI video. I plugged it into my KVM, booted up and waited to see what happened.

When I first logged on as root I changed the red background with something that didn't hurt my eyes so much, but after I rebooted it was all back. I can not change the background the color of the desktop font.

Ok, I have two things, but I think that they are connected in a way. I have RH 8. 0 on my desktop and Windows XP on my laptop. I have a router that is Linux compatible, and a shared Internet connection, but I want to Share a few files between the two machines, how would I be able to do this.

Please bare with me since I just took a dive into the world of Linux. I'm liking it so far but I have one problem that some of you gurus can hopefully help me figure out. The default security level for the firewall always stays high no matter what I change it to.

Does anyone do any MOOing or MUDDing? I am using tiny fugue to MOO and for some reason it keeps timing me out. I get disconnected from the server and these are servers that never time you out for inactivity.

I have a tape drive that I use for backups and occasionally it fails for various reasons. I kill the process but the device (/dev/st0) is still showing up as busy (mt status). The only way I have been able to get it back up and running is by rebooting the server.
