KDE Software Compilation 4.5.1 is now available

Today, KDE updated the Applications, Platform and Plasma Workspaces to 4.5.1, a new releases bringing a number of important bugfixes on top of 4.5.0. 4.5.0 was released only three weeks ago and receives monthly service updates. 4.5.1 is the first in this series of bugfix and translation updates. Those releases improve stability and the user experience further, while not bringing major new features or bigger changes to the user interface. 4.5.1 is a safe upgrade for anybody running 4.5.0 or earlier versions. 4.5.1 has been dubbed "Cronjob" as it is one of the regular releases published by KDE, just like a cronjob does.

This release will make 4.5 users life more pleasant by adding a number of important bugfixes, bringing more stability and better functionality to the Plasma Desktop, and many applications and utilities. Check the changelog for details about many of these improvements.

On a related note, on Thursday, KDE will release a third beta version of the Kontact PIM and groupware suite for testing the port to the new Akonadi infrastructure. The new version of Kontact will be released once it has reached sufficient stability for everyday and production use.The next KDE SC 4.5 update is scheduled for 30th September. The next major release, 4.6.0 is planned for January, 26th 2011.
