Direct Rendering is possible. PPracer (19fps at 1024x768 with a duron 800) and tuxcart works. In theory, the savage4 can run quake 3, therefore there is a chance that with the correct modules and configurations AIGLX, XGL, COMPIZ AND BERYL could work.
