Ventoy 1.1.09 released
The popular bootable USB drive utility, Ventoy, just got an update to version 1.1.09.
It seems like they focused mainly on two things: fixing existing problems and starting work on something new, btrfs support.
Good riddance to bad rubbish! One frustrating bug that was keeping openSUSE users from booting has been squashed. If you were one of those affected, hopefully this change makes things smoother.
Now for the fresh feature: experimental Btrfs support dropped in. However, it comes with important caveats from the very beginning. First off, it only works if your system isn't using any RAID configuration, so pure, non-RAID setups are fine. That means you miss out on some of the fancy built-in stuff, like snapshots, that makes Btrfs cool because those features need a working RAID mode too.
There's another limitation: Ventoy doesn't play nice with compressing ISO files made for Btrfs. Not sure if that'll be tightened up later or not, but it does reduce flexibility compared to regular setups where compression often works fine.
Ventoy throws in an extra page just so you know what you're dealing with called "About btrfs." It explains the whole setup process and how things work specifically within their own environment. Check it out if you want more details beyond the release notes themselves.
Elsewhere, they fixed a separate issue affecting persistence plugins for Arch Linux users; another problem gone away after testing. That's always nice to see solved consistently across distros.
And finally, a few bugs related to the WebUI for managing VentoyPlugsons were addressed too. Basically, if you rely on that web interface and it was acting wonky, hopefully things run more reliably now.
